Surface treatment process of titanium rod!

Release time:2026-07-28 Reading:4

The core of surface treatment for titanium rods lies in removing oxidation and contaminating layers, and enhancing smoothness and corrosion resistance.

Complete process of titanium rod surface treatment

1. Mechanical pretreatment (mandatory)

Turning / Rough grinding

Remove forging skin, cracks, and oxide scale to ensure roundness and straightness.

Sandblasting / Shot blasting

Used for roughening the surface or removing the black oxide layer from hot-working processes.

2. Chemical acid pickling (key: remove hydrogen, remove contamination, remove oxidation)

Common acid solution: nitric acid + hydrofluoric acid (HNO₃+HF)

Function:

Remove oxide layer, nitride layer, and contamination layer

Unify the surface color and reveal the natural metal color

Improve the adhesion of subsequent polishing and anodizing

Key points:

Strictly control the concentration, temperature, and time

After acid washing, it is necessary to rinse with plenty of clean water + neutralize

Prevent over-corrosion and hydrogen embrittlement

3. Bright finish (selected based on precision)

(1) Rough polishing / Semi-fine polishing

Belt grinding and wheel grinding are used to improve surface uniformity.

(2) Fine polishing / Mirror polishing

Mechanical polishing: capable of achieving Ra≤0.8μm, 0.4μm, 0.2μm

Electropolishing: The surface is more uniform and stress-free

4. Passivation / Bright Annealing (Corrosion Resistance Enhancement)

Vacuum annealing / Argon-protected annealing

Stress relief, with a bright and non-oxidized surface.

Chemical passivation

Further strengthen the oxide film to improve corrosion resistance.

5. Special surface treatment (optional)

anodizing

It can be colored (blue/black/gold, etc.), enhancing the hardness and insulation properties of the film layer.

Coating / Spraying

Used in wear-resistant, heat-insulating, and insulating scenarios (for industrial equipment).
