Core technology of titanium wire drawing (cold drawing)
1. Applicable materials
Pure titanium and titanium alloy wires such as TA1, TA2, and TC4 typically have diameters ranging from 0.1mm to 8mm.
II. Preparation before pulling

Titanium coils, rods, and wires, after being turned/polished/pickled, have no cracks or oxide scales on the surface.

Vacuum annealing or argon-shielded annealing softens the grains, eliminates stress, and ensures drawability.
Surface Treatment
Acid pickling: remove oxide layer and contamination layer
Apply lubricant: saponified liquid, oil-based lubricant, special titanium wire drawing powder
III. Key points of the key pulling process
mold
Utilize more carbide molds and diamond molds, with strict control over mold angles and sizing bands, to ensure dimensional accuracy and surface finish.
Deformation amount per pass
Pure titanium: single-pass reduction ratio of 15% to 30%
Titanium alloys such as TC4: 10% to 20%
Excessive deformation can easily lead to wire breakage, galling, and cracking.
Pulling speed
Draw at a steady low to medium speed to avoid heating, oxidation, and mold sticking.
Multi-pass drawing
Rough drawing → Medium drawing → Fine drawing → Precision drawing
Annealing must be performed in between every 2 to 5 passes to restore plasticity.
IV. Intermediate annealing (determining whether it can be drawn thin without breaking)
Temperature: 600~750℃
Atmosphere: vacuum / argon shielding, strictly avoid oxidation
Purpose: To eliminate work hardening and prevent brittle fracture and surface cracks
V. Fine drawing and finished product processing
Fine drawing / Precise drawing
Small deformation, high-gloss mold, control of diameter tolerance, roundness, and straightness.
Finished product annealing
Soft / semi-hard / hard, with mechanical properties adjusted according to customer requirements.
Surface Treatment
Acid pickling: silver-white matte finish
Polishing: Achieving a shiny surface
Cleaning, drying, winding, packaging
VI. Common quality control
Surface: Free from burrs, scratches, cracks, and oxidation discoloration
Dimension: Tolerance up to ±0.01mm or higher
Performance: strength, elongation, winding performance, and corrosion resistance meet the standards
Non-destructive: no hydrogen embrittlement, no internal defects
